TMX Group's monthly financing statistics, published September 9, 2026, show that companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange raised C$5,931,925,580 in August across 29 financings, against C$2,020,603,602 in July and C$294,967,725 in August 2025; the release puts the increases at 194% month over month and 1,911% year over year. Secondary financings accounted for C$5,571,740,370 of the August total and initial public offerings for C$356,716,460. For the first eight months of 2026 the TSX counted 389 financings raising C$18,898,076,419, up 88.9% from the same period of 2025, 242 new issuers and 203 IPOs. The quoted market value of TSX-listed issues stood at C$7,253,321,243,857, up 24.9% from a year earlier [1].
The junior market was quieter. TSX Venture Exchange issuers raised C$594,695,694 in August across 77 financings, down from C$694,681,042 in July and C$811,465,415 a year earlier, with C$540,904,315 of it in the supplemental category that covers private placements; year to date the exchange recorded 944 financings raising C$8,165,943,244, up 69.1% [1].
The release does not name the issuers behind the August total, so we do not attribute it [1].
For a U.S. reader two things follow. Canadian companies are issuing equity at a rate well above last year's, which is dilution for existing holders and, read the other way, a sign that the market is open to them at prices they will accept. And the gap between a C$5.9 billion month on the senior exchange and a C$595 million month on the junior one says where the money is going: to companies with revenue, not to exploration juniors [1].
