U.S.–Korea framework contemplates eight large reactors on Westinghouse technology

Cameco, which owns 49% of Westinghouse, says the September 30 framework covers six AP1000 and up to two APR1400 units and that any Korean equity in Westinghouse would not change its own stake.

On September 30, 2026 Cameco acknowledged a framework announced by the United States and the Republic of Korea under which Korea would commit US$120 billion to finance the deployment of Westinghouse reactor technology in the United States. As Cameco describes it, the framework contemplates up to eight large reactors: six Westinghouse AP1000 units and up to two Korean APR1400 units, which are built on Westinghouse technology, with an initial two AP1000 reactors on federal sites. Cameco puts the anticipated value to Westinghouse of each APR1400 at about US$2 billion through intellectual-property licensing, engineering services and fuel fabrication [1].

The framework also contemplates a possible Korean equity investment in Westinghouse. Cameco, which holds a 49% equity-accounted interest alongside Brookfield's 51% [2], said it does not expect any such participation to affect its own ownership interest [1]. Westinghouse had confidentially submitted a draft S-1 for a proposed initial public offering two months earlier [3].

For a holder of CCJ this is a Westinghouse event before it is a uranium event. Reactors contemplated in a framework are not reactors ordered, and none of the figures above is revenue; they describe a pipeline that an IPO prospectus will eventually have to value. What a U.S. reader can take from it is that the asset Cameco equity-accounts, which contributed a C$56 million net loss (Cameco's share) in the first half of 2026 [4], now has a stated government counterparty for new builds in the United States.
